Are you up for the challenge?

The Way-finder NAVATHON is a 24hr navigation event. The experience and results are up to you – go hard and test your endurance for 24hrs or navigate at your own pace and enjoy a night camped under the stars.

Navathon

From the start point, checkpoints will be navigated to in an out-and-back fashion alleviating the need for a staggered start. It is a recommended to work in small groups of 2-3, however solo navigation is allowed for those that wish to go it alone (T&Cs apply).

What to bring

Food and gear to be self-sufficient for 24hrs. There will be water available at the start point and extra gear/food may be left at the start point allowing you the freedom to navigate with only the bare essentials (a required packing list will be provided).

WHERE & WHEN

The NAVATHON commences at Midday on the 3rd of September 2022. Navigation checkpoints will be open until midday 4th September 2022 giving you 24hrs to navigate to as many checkpoints as you can. The location for the NAVATHON is Turon State Forest.

NAVTHON ENTRY CATEGORIES

The NAVATHON has 2 categories in which you may participate- TRADNAV and MODNAV. Participants are required to notify Way-finder staff of their preferred entry category at the pre-event brief prior to the commencement of the NAVATHON.

Tradnav

The TRADNAV category is for participants who wish to navigate using more traditional navigation methods. This category allows the use of a map, compass and pace-counter or pacing beads to conduct navigation. Any electronic means of measuring direction, distance or location is not allowed in this category, this includes handheld GPS, GPS watches, mobile Phones, electronic compasses, rangefinders, and other such devices. Participants in this category will still be required to carry a GPS for safety reasons but it will be sealed in a tamperproof bag by Way-finder staff at the commencement of the NAVATHON and inspected at the completion of the event.

Modnav

The MODNAV category allows the use of all modern navigation technologies such as GPS, GPS watches and mobile phones.

NAVATHON RULES

The general rules for participation in the NAVATHON are very simple:

  1. Stick to the navigation methods suited to your chosen category
  2. You must have your navigation plan checked and approved by an official before before leaving basecamp
  3. You must check in when you return from a navigation leg
  4. You must comply with safety direction from officials during the NAVATHON
  5. You must comply with all reasonable directions and requests from officials during the NAVATHON
  6. You are required to carry all mandatory safety equipment stipulated in the packing list at all times while navigating

There may be specific considerations not detailed here that will be explained during the information and safety brief prior to the commencement of the NAVATHON. Additionally a detailed information pack will be sent to all entrants.

COVID-19

Way-finder operates in compliance with COVID-19 Rules for NSW. Currently there are no restrictions on the NAVATHON due to COVID. This will be updated if changes occur.

Free Survival workshop

All Entrants to the NAVATHON are invited to take part in a free 1hr survival workshop. There will be several workshops run during the 24hrs so if you are taking a break between bagging checkpoints come and learn some field survival skills. Workshop timings TBC.

Terms of Entry

Before finalising entry to the NAVATHON you will need to confirm that you have adequate navigation skills individually or within your group to participate safely in this event. This doesn’t mean you must be a master navigator, but basic map, compass and GPS is recommended.
